About Me

As an undergraduate I attended Seattle University where in 2007 I received my B.A. in Humanities and my B.S. in Biology. During my time at Seattle University I worked with Prof. Joe Langenhan towards the development of novel glycosylation methodologies.

After graduating I worked as a intern chemist at Lumera (currently GigOptix) specializing in the purification of electroactive chromophores. In June 2008 I began my PhD studies working jointly with Prof. Michael Haley and Prof. Darren Johnson at the University of Oregon.

My PhD research focused primarily on the synthesis of fluorescent sensors for the detection of biologically relevant anions. While at the University of Oregon I received a National Science Foundation GK-12 fellowship where I worked as a "scientist-in-residence" in rural Eastern Oregon elementary schools towards the integration of K-5 science curriculum. In August 2013 I received my PhD from the University of Oregon and moved to Pacific University where I was a Visiting Assistant Professor in Chemistry. While at Pacific University I taught Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry and Advanced Organic Chemistry.

In 2014 I moved to Tacoma Community College as a full time chemistry instructor and I currently teach CHEM 261, CHEM 262, CHEM 263, and CHEM 110.
